The HGSA organizes a volunteer mentoring program. The program seeks to support students at all stages of the History Ph.D. program. At the beginning of each academic year, the HGSA Board pairs a mentor with a mentee. In particular, the HGSA seeks to help new students transition to their new homes at the University of Chicago. Students in years 2+ are also welcome to become mentees. Any student in years 2+ may volunteer to be a mentor.

A mentor volunteers to be a resource for a mentee. Mentors answer academic, professional, and personal questions to the best of their ability. The beauty of the mentor-mentee relationship is that it often develops into a friendship as well.

The HGSA Board endeavors to pair mentors and mentees according to their preferences.
