Food for Thought is an HGSA initiative that aims to increase opportunities for faculty and graduate students in the Department of History to converse beyond the confines of the classroom and the office. Over lunch, an invited faculty member and graduate students from diverse fields within our department come together for informal conversation. Past invited faculty members include Constantin Fasolt, Leora Auslander, Ada Palmer, Emilio Kouri, Fredrik Albritton Jonsson, and Kathleen Belew. At these conversations, we encourage faculty to talk with us about any number of topics, including:

• Their current research interests or an on-going research project

• How they practice the craft of history 

• The kinds of sources they work with and why they chose them

• How their scholarship has been shaped by their time at the University of Chicago 

• Advice or suggestions for graduate student historians
